Royal Albert Docks was designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick and opened in 1846. It dominated global trade due to it’s revolutionary construction and speed in which cargo could be unloaded. In 1952 it was awarded Grade l listed status, made a conservation area in 1976 and then given World Heritage Status in 2004. Granted royal status in 2018 it became know as Royal Albert Dock.

Today it is home to museums such as the Tate Liverpool, bars, restaurants and shops, making it a popular tourist destination.
