Coles 1 A3 Print
Cole Brothers was founded by John & Thomas Cole in 1847. Following huge success and expansion over the years, the department store moved to this newly completed site in 1963. The company was bought by John Lewis during WWII, but was only rebranded in 2002, with the iconic ‘Coles’ signage replaced.
The building continues to be called Coles by locals, with the original site still known as ‘Coles corner’.
In 2022 it was awarded Grade II listed status.
